Estate De Geer is an excellent starting point for excursions. We are happy to provide you with suggestions for day trips or sightseeing in the area.
The beautiful historic town of Culemborg has nice shops, fine art galleries, fine restaurants, lovely outdoor terraces and various museums. There is much to see and discover. Fort “Werk aan het Spoel” and the Elisabeth Orphanage are a must-visit.
Buren is a picturesque town with a rich history and many attractions. Buren has close ties with the royal family which can be seen in the Orange Museum. The State Police Museum in the orphanage is also recommended.
Cycling is the perfect way to discover the Betuwe. Ride along the river Lek or Linge or try a trip with the “Linie Pontje”. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug is within cycling distance. Estate De Geer is close to the Beusichemsedijk which is on the biking route between junction 42 and 43. At your cottage you will find cards with different biking routes and maps so you can create your own route.
Did you not bring your own bicycle? No problem. We have bicycles for rent. If you reserve one day in advance, we will make sure the bikes are ready.
From your cottage you step right onto the Klompenpad, a walking trail through the outskirts of Culemborg and Beusichem. You can walk over estates and pastures, through historic centers, past orchards and natural wetlands. There are two trails which you can combine into longer and shorter routes. A leaflet with the trails is available upon request.
Estate De Geer is located near the river Lek. There are plenty of small beaches where you can paddle. Outdoor swimming is possible at the “Excavation”, a tributary of the Lek, or the Meent in Beusichem. Canoe trips on the Linge are offered in the towns of Geldermalsen and Buren. And you can go sailing from the Island Maurik. We happily provide you with any information you might need.
The floodplains along the river Lek are a beautiful area where you can enjoy lots of different birds, butterflies and a great diversity of plants and flowers. With a little luck you can even spot some wildlife. On our farm we regularly see owls, pheasants, hares and, in season, a kingfisher.
Culemborg has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. This can be discovered by visiting the Orphanage Museum (The Elizabeth Weeshuis), the former Castle of Culemborg, or through a city walk with a local guide. Culemborg is a town with a large number of artists and exhibitions are regularly organized in the different art galleries. Culemborg and Beusichem also have a number of theaters with theater and musical performances as well as movies.
